Dwain Harris, MHA "Health literacy is sometimes the forgotten link on the healthcare chain, and the old saying about the weakest link definitely applies to health literacy as it relates to healthcare. If patients don’t understand, they can’t comply properly, and all the work and resources going into providing that care might be for naught. The health literacy conference holds the spotlight on this issue of clear provider-patient communication, and I think the more the healthcare community focuses on it, the better our patient outcomes will be."

Sandra E. Brooks, MD, MBA "According to the National Center for Education Statistics, Nearly 9 out of 10 adults have difficulty using the everyday health information that is routinely available in our healthcare facilities, retail outlets, media and communities. We aim to provide tools and resources that stress the importance of clear communication to promote understanding - so people can make the right choices for their health. In order for us to become a more "health literate" community, we need to engage our constituents and hold our communicators to a very high standard - one in which we place a premium on clarity and accessibility."
