The Kentucky Perinatal Quality Collaborative (KyPQC) utilizes the platform of the annual meeting to provide education in clinical practice guidelines, profile evidence-based processes of care, and highlight ancillary care services that support improvements in clinical outcomes. Also, the KyPQC would like to share success stories of quality improvement initiatives implemented in other states that could be applied in Kentucky. Further, this presentation “Leading with Our Hearts: Understanding and Addressing the Challenges of Empathy and Compassion when Working with High Needs Patients” defines and distinguishes between the concepts of empathy and compassion and the impact of working with vulnerable populations on empathy and compassion. This presentation also reviews three strategies to address empathic strain and related concepts. This presentation is peer-reviewed, and the credentials of speakers are heavily vetted.
