Erin Chalmers has been a PA for over 15 years and has worked in PA Education since 2014. She works as a Physician Assistant at Future Hope Pediatrics. She has practiced clinically in the fields of geriatrics, pediatrics, pediatric endocrinology, family medicine, and urgent care. During her time working in family medicine, she participated in the care of patients with SUD. Erin’s interest in integrative medicine began during PA school and has developed since working at Future Hope. Her medical interests lie in participating in the growth and development of healthy children and practicing holistic, root-cause medicine.

Erin is and advocate for Physician Assistants and is a member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants, Kentucky Academy of Physician Assistants, Physician Assistant Education Association, and the Academy of Doctoral Physician Assistants. She sits on the Board of Directors for the Kentucky Academy of Physician Assistants and serves as the President-Elect and Treasurer. She also serves as a Director-at-Large and Membership Committee Chair for the Academy of Doctoral Physicians.

She is the Director of Didactic Education, Associate Professor, and Fellowship Coordinator at the Sullivan University Physician Assistant Program. She holds her Doctor of Medical Science with a focus on PA Education. She is involved in curriculum development, admissions, professionalism development, and remediation.  Her teaching philosophy embraces humanizing medicine; she loves to be involved in the growth and development of learners from students to providers.

Katherine Fortenberry, PhD

Katherine (Katie) Fortenberry, Ph.D., graduated from the University of Alabama with a bachelor's in Psychology, then received her Master's and Ph.D. in Psychology with a focus in Clinical Health from the University of Utah. She completed her internship training in Clinical Health Psychology at the Memphis VA Medical Center, and a postdoctoral fellowship in Primary Care Psychology in the Department of Family Medicine at the University of Mississippi Medical Center. She is currently an Associate Professor (Clinical) in the University of Utah Division of Family Medicine, where she serves as the Behavioral Science Education Director and sees patients for consultations and brief, solution-focused therapy at Sugarhouse Health Center. Her overall goal is to promote effective treatment of mental and behavioral health concerns in primary care settings by: 1) educating family physicians and other healthcare professionals to effectively utilize behavior change principles and maintain their own self-care; 2) training psychology and medical trainees to effectively work in an interdisciplinary environment; 3) increasing access to high quality care through improving behavioral health services and reducing barriers to care.

Megan Higgins Yim, PA

Megan is a seasoned healthcare professional whose journey has been marked by a passion for innovation and a commitment to improving both patient care and the provider experience through technology. She received her Masters in Physician Assistant Studies at Mercy University in Bronx, New York. Beginning her career as a Physician Assistant in emergency medicine, Megan quickly demonstrated a keen understanding of the intersection between clinical expertise and
technological advancements. With a solid foundation in patient care, Megan transitioned to the dynamic world of clinical operations during her several years as a PA at a Silicon Valley-based healthcare tech startup. As an operations leader, she developed and executed
strategies to optimize practice efficiency, clinical outcomes, patient safety, clinical program development, and regulatory compliance. Driven by a vision to transform healthcare delivery, in 2022 Megan received her Master of Science in Clinical Service Operations from Harvard Medical School. Currently, she is the Head of Clinical Operations for a pre-seed virtual specialty care tech startup based out of New York City.

Emily Murphy, EdD, MPAS, PA-C, DFAAPA

Emily Murphy is the Associate Director of the Doctor of PA Studies (DPAS) program and an assistant professor in the Department of PA Studies. She joined SHRS in 2009 as clinical coordinator for the campus MS PA Studies program. Murphy graduated from Saint Francis University in 2005 with her Master of Physician Assistant Science degree and from the University of Pittsburgh in 2021 with her Doctor of Education degree. She is currently a principal faculty member in the DPAS program. Her clinical background is in Neurosurgery, Interventional Radiology, and Pulmonology. Murphy currently holds a clinical appointment in Addiction Medicine.

Dr. Steve Taylor graduated from MCPHS University with a Doctor of Science in Physician Assistant Studies. He has practiced hospitalist medicine for 15 years and has been a national conference speaker, presenting on medical issues as well as personal and professional development topics. As an ordained Baptist preacher, a graduate of Maranatha Baptist University and Faith Baptist Bible College, Dr. Taylor served as an associate pastor in Wisconsin for a number of years. He currently is the Field Representative for Medical Missions Outreach, an organization based out of Atlanta, Georgia, that partners with missionaries around the world by providing medical and surgical clinics and assisting in outreach efforts. Dr. Taylor has been on numerous medical mission trips all over the world. A military veteran, he served 8 years in the United States Army, receiving various ribbons and commendations for his service and courageous actions while on duty. Dr. Taylor currently works as a hospitalist at the William S. Middleton Veterans Hospital in Madison, Wisconsin. He has been blessed him with a precious wife and three children and they currently live 20 minutes north of Madison.

Presenter has spent entire career working for Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs) and in under-resourced medical settings including primary care, walk-in, school-based, and correctional settings. Since 2021, presenter has been involved with the CARE program (Compassionate Appreciation for Recovery in Everyone), including as the co-principal investigator from 2021 - March 2024. The CARE program is a grant-funded program in Winnebago County, IL focused on same-day/next-day access for individuals with Behavioral Health and/or Substance Use Disorder needs upon release from the local justice setting.
