Needs Statement

Acute diverticulitis and C. difficile colitis are common problems faced by the acute care surgeon. Management of both conditions is undergoing a paradigm shift. It is important for surgeons treating these conditions to review the current literature and have complete understanding of available treatment options and indications.

Target Audience

General Surgeons and acute care surgeons who provide surgical care for patients with acute diverticulitis and clostridium difficile colitis.

Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, participants will be able to:

1. Identify acceptable treatment options for acute diverticulitis based on Hinchey stage and presentation
2. Identify individuals with C. difficile colitis who require surgery
3. Describe safe options for treatment of CDAD (C. difficile associated disease)
