Needs Statement

Health care providers, family members, and friends need to have the skills to prevail over the anger and hopelessness that is felt when dealing with the affliction of addiction by utilizing "great reserves of love
and discipline to investigate what might help...” New York Times

Target Audience

Health care professionals/prescribers including physicians, physician assistants, nurses, advance practice registered nurses, pharmacists, dentists, dental hygienists, social workers, counselors, and any others interested in the prevention of and treatment for substance abuse disorder and sustained recovery.

Objectives

Upon completion of this educational activity, participants will be able to:

• Discuss the life threatening illness of addiction and the enormous pain it causes
• Discuss the plunge into homelessness and addiction
• Describe the cycle oscillating between chaotic drug use to treatment and recovery
• Emphasize the importance of seeing a trained healthcare professional to get an assessment and a referral into appropriate treatment

CPE
The University of Kentucky College of Pharmacy is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education as a provider of continuing pharmacy education.

This knowledge-based activity has been assigned UAN JA0000312-9999-19-004-H01-P and will award 1.50 contact hours (0.150 CEUs) of continuing pharmacy education credit in states that recognize ACPE providers.

Statements of participation will indicate hours and CEUs based on participation and will be issued online at the conclusion of the activity. Successful completion includes completing the activity, its accompanying evaluation and/or posttest (score 70% or higher) and requesting credit online at the conclusion of the activity. ANCC and KBN approval of a continuing nursing education provider does not constitute endorsement of program content nor commercial sponsors.
