Biosketch
Dr. Elaine Wittenberg-Lyles (Ph.D., University of Oklahoma, 2004) is an Associate Professor at Markey Cancer Center and in the Department of Communication at the University of Kentucky. Her main research focus is on hospice and palliative care communication, including interdisciplinary healthcare team communication and interventions for family caregivers. She has co-authored three books including Communication as Comfort: Multiple Voices in Palliative Care (2008, Routledge Taylor and Francis), Dying with Comfort: Family Illness Narratives and Early Palliative Care (2010, Hampton Press), and Communication in Palliative Nursing (2012, Oxford University Press). Dr. Wittenberg-Lyles is currently a co-investigator on a study funded by the National Institute of Health, which examines family participation in hospice care and the role of the caregiver in providing patient care and pain management at home.
