Biosketch
Dr. Day earned an MD from the University of Kentucky College of Medicine in Lexington, completed residency at Riley Children's Hospital in Indianapolis, and fellowship at Cincinnati Children's Hospital in Cincinnati.
Dr. Day joined the department of pediatrics as an assistant professor in the division of critical care and has served in a variety of roles across the institution. While at the University of Kentucky and UK HealthCare, he has been the associate chief medical officer for KCH; was actively engaged with the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital-UK HealthCare Joint Congenital Heart Program and the partnership with Shriner’s; was the co-founder of the KCH-Kentucky Neurosciences Institute Executive Leadership Group; elected to the KMSF Board of Directors; and successfully served as interim chair of the department.
He has been involved at both the local and national levels in the sections on critical care, transport medicine, and society for international child health. Dr. Day was appointed to the national committee for care coordination through American Medical Association charged with creating measures around improvement of coordination of care for children. In 2016, he partnered with a team of clinic directors and physicians to extend a global footprint, opening Reach Haiti Medical Facility, a health care clinic located in Foret des Pin, Haiti. In addition, he currently serves as the vice president/president elect for the American Academy of Pediatrics-Kentucky Chapter and most recently was elected to serve a six year term on the executive board for the AAP section on critical care.
As physician-in-chief of Kentucky Children’s Hospital, Dr. Day works closely with enterprise and college leadership to improve hospital and ambulatory efficiencies, recruit highly talented physicians to support the desired growth of KCH, and promote collaboration to ensure the highest and safest care to the children. Dr. Day has been named the Jacqueline A. Noonan-CMN Research Chair in Pediatrics reporting directly to the dean. As the chair of pediatrics, he promotes academic collaboration between departments and centers to foster interdisciplinary research and education, and continues the excellent training of medical students, residents, and fellows as well as graduate students and postdoctoral fellows.
