Dr. McKinney earned an MD from the Medical College of Ohio in Toledo and was selected to Alpha Omega Alpha. After completing primary care internal medicine residency training at UK, she engaged in a professional fellowship in patient safety through the Lexington VA Medical Center.
As a demonstration of her service, she is a member of the ACGME Institutional Review Committee, the co-chair of the National Board of Medical Examiners Patient Safety Test Material Committee, and has received all five teaching recognitions of the UK College of Medicine Abraham Flexner Master Educator Award.
Under her direction, the College of Medicine has expanded its sponsorship of GME programs across the state including those at Bowling Green (internal medicine, psychiatry, obstetrics-gynecology, general surgery and transitional year residencies; pulmonary, general cardiology and interventional cardiology fellowships; 79 trainees in all) and Morehead (family medicine), and she serves as a consultant related to GME expansion to a host of hospitals across the Commonwealth.
In addition, she has lead our GME community in the transition from a focus on individual program accreditation to the current ACGME focus on the Clinical Learning Environment Review (CLER). As part of this effort, she and her team helped secure College of Medicine’s selection as one of nine Pathway Leaders to serve as inaugural members of the Patient Safety Collaborative to help residents and fellows engage with their learning environments while promoting a culture of safety.
