Biosketch
Dr. Jason Smith is the Berel L. Abrams MD endowed professor of Surgery at the University of Louisville, the Division Chief of General Surgery, and the Chief Clinical Officer and System Chief Medical officer for UofL Health. Dr. Smith was born in Dayton Ohio and completed his undergraduate studies at Wright State University in Dayton. He completed medical school at the Ohio State University school of medicine in 2002 and completed both his surgical residency and surgical critical care fellowship at Ohio State University Medical Center. While at the University of Louisville, he completed his PhD in Physiology and Biophysics studying the effects of peritoneal lavage and resuscitation on the inflammatory process following hemorrhagic shock. Dr. Smith has authored almost 100 peer reviewed publication and book chapters he has been supported by both the NIH and the DoD in conducting these laboratory and clinical studies. In 2017, Dr. Smith became the CMO of University Hospital in Louisville KY and completed his MBA at the Kelley School of Business in Indiana during this time. Dr. Smith was named the system Chief Clinical Officer and System Chief Medical officer of UofL Health in 2019.
