Biosketch
Dr Kevin Davies is the author of EDITING HUMANITY: The CRISPR Revolution and the New Era of Genome Editing (Pegasus Books, 2020) -- the riveting story of the development of the Nobel Prize-winning CRISPR technology for editing genes, driving breakthroughs in science and medicine, while also igniting an ethical scandal over editing human embryos and the creation of designer babies. The book was supported by the award of a Guggenheim Fellowship for science writing.
Kevin has more than 30 years’ experience in science writing and editing. He is the founding editor of Nature Genetics and currently the Executive Editor of The CRISPR Journal as well as a new multidisciplinary journal launched in 2022, GEN Biotechnology.
Kevin’s previous books include Breakthrough: The Race for the Breast Cancer Gene and Cracking the Genome, an inside account of the race for the Human Genome Project. The $1,000 Genome detailed the revolution in personalized medicine and consumer genetics. He also collaborated with Nobel laureate Jim Watson and Andrew Berry on an updated edition of DNA: The Story of the Genetic Revolution. He is currently working on a new book about sickle-cell disease.
Kevin graduated with a degree in Biochemistry from Oxford University and took his PhD in molecular genetics from the University of London. He lives in Washington DC.
