Biosketch
Steve Ploum is a Field Specialist at the University of Illinois School of Social Work’s Provider Assistance and Training Hub (PATH) where he provides training and field support pertaining to IM+CANS, IM-CAT/Crisis Safety Planning, and in using the CANS in treatment planning and supervision. Steve holds a BS in education and a Masters in Counseling and Art Therapy. He’s been a registered art therapist (ATR) and a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LCPC) since the early 90’s and has extensive experience with child welfare and correctional populations in residential treatment settings, schools and outpatient settings. In addition, he has maintained a small private practice for the last 15 years, has been an adjunct and an assistant professor and he founded/directed an arts-based teen not for profit. He was first certified on the CANS in 2007 and additional certifications and advanced-level training have included trauma-focused CBT, EMDR, anger management and motivational interviewing.
