Originally from southwest Michigan, Kali Vitek formally joined the Perinatal-Neonatal Quality Improvement Network of Massachusetts (PNQIN) team in 2020. She earned a B.A. in Psychology and Sociology from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor in 2017, where she wrote and published an honors thesis on the impact of reality television portrayals of pregnancy and birth on young people's fear and self-efficacy.
In May 2020, Kali graduated from the Boston University School of Public Health with her M.P.H. and certificates in Maternal and Child Health (MCH) and Community Assessment, Program Design, Implementation, and Evaluation (CAPDIE). While attending BUSPH, Kali completed a yearlong research fellowship with Dr. Eugene Declercq on his website Birth by the Numbers and fulfilled her practicum hours under the mentorship of Dr. Audra Meadows, PNQIN Co-Chair, in the Brigham and Women's Hospital Group Prenatal Care program.
Prior to and since graduating from BUSPH, Kali has held multiple roles within PNQIN: volunteer, independent contractor, project coordinator, and now Project Management Specialist in the Boston Medical Center Department of OBGYN. Kali is primarily responsible for projects under the Massachusetts Alliance for Innovation on Maternal Health Initiative (MA AIM), which includes statewide implementation of maternal safety bundles to reduce maternal morbidity and mortality. Kali also lends her management skills to the MA Levels of Maternal Care Initiative and as a research assistant on a National Institute of Health study at the Tufts University School of Medicine titled “Promoting Maternal Health Equity through Collaborative Community Partnerships: Teaming doulas, providers, and families to create birth equity”.
Kali's passions include birth optimization, eliminating health inequities during pregnancy, birth, and postpartum, and the implementation and impact of public health, midwifery, and reproductive justice frameworks in marginalized communities, specifically pregnant people and parents who are incarcerated.
