Biosketch
Dr. Pursell is an Army veteran who served in both Iraq and Afghanistan as a medic working with the local population and developing a medical record system in an orphanage in Ghazni Providence.
Prior to joining VNPC, Dr. Pursell was the Maternal and Infant Health Supervisor for the Commonwealth of Virginia at the Virginia Department of Health.
She earned a BS in Health Sciences at Purdue University and an MPH in Public Health and a PhD in Public Health, Community Health at Walden University in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
With over fifteen years of experience in public health practice, research, service and partnership building, Dr. Pursell has worked with many different communities across Virginia, Louisiana, Iraq, and Afghanistan addressing a variety of health concerns including MCH, chronic disease, and health equity, and health education.
She has expertise developing and managing multi-disciplinary partnerships with providers including pediatricians, OB/GYNs, mental and behavioral health specialists, non-profits, and hospitals. She has expertise in state and local public health areas, maternal and child health, chronic disease, adolescent immunization, and programs with an emphasis on improving maternal and infant health outcomes, community engagement, and partnership building.
