Biosketch
Dr. David Nelson is Director of Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care at Kentucky Children’s Hospital and Co-Director of the University of Kentucky Joint Program for Congenital Heart Disease since July of 2018. Dr. Nelson is an experienced Pediatric Cardiac Intensivist with a demonstrated history of working in the hospital and healthcare industry. He is also skilled in Pediatric Critical Care Medicine, Pediatric Cardiology and Healthcare Information Technology (HIT). His research interests include: physiology of non-conventional circulations, neurodevelopmental outcomes after congenital heart surgery and inflammatory injury after cardiopulmonary bypass. Prior to joining the University of Kentucky, he was the Director of Cardiac Intensive Care at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital. Dr. Nelson received his Doctorate of Medicine (M.D.) and Ph.D. in Pharmacology and Physiology from the University of Chicago. He received subspecialty training in both Pediatric Cardiology and Pediatric Critical Care at Boston Children’s Hospital. He is board-certified in Pediatrics, Pediatric Cardiology and Pediatric Critical Care Medicine.
