Biosketch
Ima Ebong, MD, MS is an Assistant Professor of Neurology at the University of Kentucky. She is also the Director of Diversity and Inclusion for the Department of Neurology.
Dr. Ebong received her Doctor of Medicine Degree from the University of Kentucky College of Medicine. She completed both her residency in Neurology and fellowship in Clinical Neurophysiology at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami, Florida.
Dr. Ebong is a Diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (DABPN) and is board-certified in both Neurology and Clinical Neurophysiology.
Dr. Ebong’s interests in equity, diversity and inclusion in medicine began as a medical student when she established University of Kentucky Medical Education Development (UKMED) in 2010 – an annual recruitment program for prospective medical students from underrepresented backgrounds. An advocate for holistic trainee education, she developed an Anti-Racism and Social Justice curriculum for neurology residents at the University of Kentucky. For her work, she received a 2020 Academy of Medical Education Excellence in Medical Education Award from the University of Kentucky College of Medicine.
Dr. Ebong is a graduate of AAN Diversity Leadership Program. She is a founding member of the American Academy of Neurology (AAN) Underrepresented in Neurology Section. In 2020, Dr. Ebong was selected to serve as a member of the AAN Special Commission on Racism, Inequity and Social Justice. In 2021, she was selected the serve as a member of the AAN Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Joint Coordinating Council (EDIJCC). and is member of the AAN’s Diversity Officers Workgroup, Anti-Racism Physician Work Group, and Speaker Selection Work Group.
In 2020, Dr. Ebong was named one of “1000 Inspiring Black Scientists in America” published by Cell Mentor and published by The Community of Scholars.
