Biosketch
Karen Stachon has more than 25 years’ experience in the healthcare field. At the Joint Commission, Karen was on the Hospital Accreditation Team that analyzed surveyor findings from on-site evaluations of accredited organizations to determine award levels. She was also on the team that designed, developed and implemented the Joint Commission’s public release of accreditation information. As a co-owner of MediScript, Karen coordinated workflow for decentralized transcription staff, performed quality review of transcription, and provided real-time transcription services into client EMR.
Karen joined the staff of the Commission on Cancer in 2005. In her current role as Senior Accreditation Technical Specialist, she provides expert technical support to internal and external constituents related to programs seeking initial accreditation, networks and merged programs. As a senior member of the technical staff, she completes technical reviews of surveys, provides pre- and post-survey support to surveyors and accredited cancer programs. She also collaborates with CoC member organizations and external groups to develop, implement and monitor CoC cancer program standards, including pediatrics and networks. Karen holds a Bachelor's degree in Community Health from Northern Illinois University and has been with the Commission on Cancer for 15 years.
