Andrea has worked in perinatal research at the University of Kentucky since 2007, and is currently the Operations Director of UK’s Perinatal Research and Wellness Center (PRWC) where she is responsible for the overall operations of research projects, programs, budgets, contracts, and staffing for the center’s more than $6M in awarded funding (Kristin Ashford, PhD, Principal Investigator). Andrea provides guidance for the Perinatal Research and Wellness Center’s mission to use translational research to inform women, providers and policymakers about current perinatal issues while empowering women to optimize maternal and child health through positive behavioral change. The center’s tailored programs help women holistically reduce modifiable risk behaviors (primarily use of cigarettes, electronic cigarettes, and illicit substances) associated with adverse pregnancy outcomes, while also identifying early prenatal biomarkers of preterm birth. Andrea actively participates in the PRWC team’s efforts for dissemination of research and programs by presenting at local and national conferences, and has authored or co-authored more than 34 published abstracts and manuscripts in peer-reviewed journals.
