Biosketch
Dr. Verheught attended medical school at the University Leiden and University of Amsterdam. He earned an MD from the University of Amsterdam. He completed military service at the Central Laboratory of The Netherlands Red Cross Blood Transfusion Service in Amsterdam and a thesis at the University of Amsterdam entitled, "Neutrophil granulocyte antigens and antibodies."
Dr. Verheugt completed an Internal Medicine residency at the University Hospital Wilhelmina Gasthuis in Amsterdam, followed by a fellowship in Cardiology at the University Hospital Dijkzigt, Erasmus University, Rotterdam.
His main interests are pharmacological and interventional treatments of acute coronary syndromes and atrial fibrillation.
Professor Verheugt has published more than 400 papers in peer-reviewed international journals and has more than 14,000 citations. He is an editorial board member of European Heart Journal and an editorial adviser to Lancet, New England Journal of Medicine, and Circulation.
