Biosketch
Dr. Poston is currently an Associate Professor of Surgery at University of Maryland. After graduating with honors from Johns Hopkins Medical School in 1993, he completed residency training at UC-San Francisco and cardiothoracic fellowships at Stanford and University of Pittsburgh. While at Stanford, he was the recipient of an NIH training award (NRSA) and a fellowship grant from the Thoracic Surgery Foundation (TSFRE). He joined the faculty at University of Maryland in 2002 and subsequently focused his clinical and research activities in the field of off-pump and minimally invasive/robotic coronary artery bypass grafting. His clinical research into graft patency after off-pump surgery is currently funded with several industry grants, by a Scientist Development Grant from the American Heart Association and by an NIH (RO1) grant (1 R01 HL084080-01A1). His clinical activities into minimally invasive CABG and the hybrid procedure were recently recognized by an "Innovation of the Year" by the Daily Record Magazine.
