Biosketch
Whitney Collins graduated from Transylvania University with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Biology, continued her studies at Eastern Kentucky University, earning a Bachelor of Science Degree in Forensic Science with concentrations in both Chemistry and Biology and then completed a Master’s Degree in Biology from the University of Kentucky. She is certified through the American Board of Criminalistics (ABC) in Molecular Biology. Whitney is a Forensic Laboratory Supervisor with the Kentucky State Police (KSP) Central Forensic Laboratory and started her career there in 2001 as a Forensic Biologist, performing Serological, DNA (autosomal and Y-STR), Rapid DNA and Bloodstain Pattern Analyses. She was promoted to Forensic Biology Casework Supervisor in 2006, where she supervised other forensic biologists, created grant proposals and made purchases from grants received, provided case management to law enforcement and attorneys, explored new technologies in the forensic biology field and performed audits of other laboratories. After more than 15 years as a Forensic Biology Casework Supervisor, she transferred to the Administrative Section where she is now responsible for Purchasing and Grant Writing/Management for the Kentucky State Police Laboratory System, which is comprised of 6 laboratories at 8 locations. She has and continues to provide training for various college students, law enforcement, prosecuting attorneys, defense attorneys, and Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner/Sexual Assault Response Teams. Whitney is also an Instructor for the Homicide Investigation course with University of Louisville’s Southern Police Institute.
