Biosketch
Dr. DeBoer is an Associate Professor of Pediatrics in the Division of Pediatric Endocrinology at the University of Virginia. There, he is a researcher with the Center for Diabetes Technology, a multi-disciplinary group focused on developing technological means of improving diabetes care. Dr. DeBoer has a strong interest in adapting artificial pancreas systems and remote monitoring systems for use in children. He also is involved in research evaluating the metabolic syndrome as a predictor of future type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease in children and adults. Dr. DeBoer and his colleague Dr. Matthew Gurka have designed a sex- and race/ethnicity-specific metabolic syndrome severity score (http://mets.health-outcomes-policy.ufl.edu/calculator/) that is associated with future risk.
