Biosketch
A native of Ohio, Dr. Wyles attended Northwestern University for undergraduate studies and medical school, and completed his internal medicine residency and ID fellowship at the University of Colorado.
Since then, he has been at the University of California at San Diego, where he is Associate Professor of Medicine, Director of the UCSD Infectious Diseases HCV clinic, and Director of the Microbiology course for the UCSD School of Medicine.
Dr. Wyles has achieved an international reputation in the management of hepatitis C infection having done research both as a basic scientist and investigator in several important clinical trials, leading to major advances in this discipline.
Dr. Wyles’ research interests include the conduct of HCV clinical trials, HCV drug resistance, and the treatment of HCV in underserved populations.
He was an inaugural member of the AASLD/IDSA HCV guidelines panel and currently serves as Co-Chair on the panel. He is also a member of the International Antiviral Society–USA Hepatitis Advisory Board and the ACTG Hepatitis transformative science group. Clinically Dr. Wyles is involved in care of patients with HCV and HCV/HIV-1 co-infection.
