Dr. Michael Kindred MD completed his medical school training at the University of Colorado in Denver. He then completed a surgical residency at the University of Oklahoma. He is a board certified general surgeon. He is currently participating in a Fellowship in Addiction Medicine at the University of Kentucky in Lexington.
His interest in Addiction Medicine started while treating trauma patients during his surgical residency; realizing that a large percentage of patients involved in penetrating and blunt trauma were intoxicated with some substance.
His interest in addiction continued as he developed an elective practice in general surgery as well. He found that the majority of his patients were addicted to some substance whether it be tobacco, alcohol, prescribed medications or illicit drugs. It became obvious to him that the problem was pervasive throughout society and affected people from all socioeconomic classes.
His plans after Fellowship are to return to northern New Hampshire to start an Addiction Medicine program. Like in most states of our country the problems associated with alcohol use disorder and substance use disorder are exponential in their effects on the community.
