Biosketch
Sheridan Y. Wood CEO, Kansas City CARE Clinic. A University of North Carolina graduate, Sheri has over forty-years of experience in the non-profit sector including positions with the United Way of Middle Tennessee, hospices in both Chattanooga, and Clarksville, TN as the founding executive director, and Nashville CARES, Tennessee’s largest AIDS service organization. Sheri joined the staff of the Kansas City CARE Clinic (formerly the KC Free Health Clinic) as Executive Director in 1996, where there was a staff of 18 and an annual budget of approximately $1.2m. Under her tenure, the clinic has grown to one of the largest free and charitable clinics in the country with a staff of 100+ and a volunteer base of more than 1,100 who provide care for thousands of uninsured and underinsured in Kansas City with a budget of more than $12m.Locally, she currently serves on the Board of Trustees for Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences, the board of MetroCares as Vice Chair elect, as vice-president of the Kansas City Care Network, vice-president of the Missouri Association of Free Clinics, and is immediate past Co-Chair of the Mid-America Regional Council’s Safety Net Collaborative. Nationally, Sheri is one of the founding Board members of the National Association of Free and Charitable Clinics (NAFCC) and is past-president and a past treasurer. Currently she chairs the C.A.R.E. committee responsible for one-day clinics held across the country utilizing volunteers to see thousands of patients in a single-day with 14 held to date. Sheri was named the Non-Profit Executive of the Year by the Greater Kansas City Council on Philanthropy (now known as Non-Profit Connect) and has received numerous other recognition for her work and that of the Clinic.
