Biosketch
Dr. Chavan takes keen interest in obstetric quality and safety and is currently an active member of the Kentucky Maternal Mortality Review Committee as well as the Obstetric Quality and Safety Committee at the University of Kentucky.
Some of his other areas of clinical and research interest include substance use disorders in pregnancy, preterm birth prevention, health disparities in Appalachia, and dissemination and implementation science in perinatology.
Dr. Chavan also takes a keen interest in medical education and serves as a clinical and research preceptor to medical students, residents in Obstetrics & Gynecology, and fellows in Maternal Fetal Medicine.
In addition to his clinical and teaching responsibilities, Dr. Chavan is actively involved with research initiatives directed towards preterm birth prevention across Appalachian Kentucky improving perinatal outcomes for patients with opioid use disorder, smoking cessation through behavioral interventions in pregnancy, and increasing telemedicine access for improving perinatal outcomes.
Dr. Chavan is actively involved at the regional and national level as a Treasurer/Vice Chair-Elect of the Kentucky Section of the American College of Obstetrics & Gynecology and a member of Society of Maternal Fetal Medicine Global Health Committee.
Having trained and worked at the University of Kentucky, he has closely worked with healthcare providers and patients across Appalachian Kentucky through the Kentucky Angels Perinatal Outreach and Telemedicine program and is well versed with the challenges faced by our health care systems across Kentucky.
Through his clinical practice, service appointments, and research endeavor, Dr. Chavan remains continuously committed to improving perinatal quality and safety across our Commonwealth.
Dr. Chavan earned an MD from Lokmanya Tilak Municipal General Hospital in Mumbai Maharashtra, India. He completed residency at
Flushing Hospital Medical Center in Flushing, New York, and fellowship in Maternal-Fetal Medicine at the University of Kentucky. He is certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
