Biosketch
Dr. Brown earned an MD from the Columbia University College of Physicians & Surgeons in New York. He completed his residency at Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, DC, and fellowship at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland.
He is board certified in endocrinology and metabolism, internal medicine.
Clinical interests include metabolic complications of HIV infection - diabetes, insulin resistance, dyslipidemia, body fat changes, and reduced bone mineral density.
Dr. Brown’s research focuses on metabolic, endocrine, and skeletal abnormalities observed in HIV-infected patients, particularly related to aging. He is a co-investigator in the Multicenter AIDS Cohort Study and the AIDS Clinical Trial Group. Through multiple ongoing epidemiologic studies and clinical trials, he has been interested in clarifying the epidemiology, pathogenesis, optimal treatment, and clinical consequences of insulin resistance/diabetes, body composition abnormalities, osteoporosis, and hypogonadism in HIV-infected patients. In particular, he has been interested in the relative contributions of antiretroviral therapies and chronic inflammation in the pathogenesis of these disorders.
