R Stephen Amato, MD, PhD

Dr. Amato earned an MD from and completed residency at the University of Nebraska College of Medicine in Omaha, Nebraska. He earned an MA from Columbia University and a PhD from NYU.

Dr. Amato is certified by the American Board of Medical Genetics, Clinical Cytogenetics and the American Board of Pediatrics.

Clinical interests include genetics, molecular and biochemical genetics, molecular and medical aspects of primary ciliary disorders, molecular diagnosis of genetic disorders and genetic therapies, neurogenetics, and newborn screening for genetic disorders.

Dr. Amato has served a a Metabolic NBS Consultant for Arizona, Professor and Lecturer at Tufts, Johns Hopkins, the University of Maryland, West Virginia University, and the University of Nebraska.

He served as a Flight Surgeon in the US Army retired at the rank of Colonel.
