Biosketch
Dr. Smith earned a PhD in Anatomy and Neurobiology from the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis, Tennessee. He completed postdoctoral training in epilepsy research and neurophysiology at Colorado State University. He previously served as Associate Professor of Cell and Molecular Biology at Tulane University.
Dr. Smith is a basic and translational research scientist. Research interests include mechanisms of acquired epileptogenesis, SUDEP, cellular and synaptic electrophysiology, as well as central autonomic control of metabolism. His research has been funded by the NIH, NSF, and DoD for over twenty years.
He is a member of several national research societies, is a contributing editor for Epilepsy Currents, and serves regularly on NIH grant review panels.
