Dawna earned an MSW from Spalding University in Louisville, Kentucky.
She has over thirty-two years of professional experience working with children, families, and individuals as an advocate for support and guidance. Within the past thirteen years, she has worked at the University of Kentucky Medical Center with persons living with and affected by HIV and AIDS (PLWHA). Working with PLWHA, she utilizes a holistic approach tailored to the needs of each client. Most of her skill set has been to reinforce self-care and medication adherence alongside the medical multidisciplinary team consisting of a physician, nurse, psychiatrist, pharmacist, and care coordinators. She also helps educate PLWHA patients regarding safer sex practices and the importance of a safe and nurturing environment that can enhance their quality of life.
Dawna believes positive change can happen when individuals are given the opportunity, guidance, and support needed in order to draw from their own strengths.
