Biosketch
Dr. Faro received his MD from the University of Pittsburgh where he also completed residency in Pediatrics and fellowship in Pulmonary Medicine. His clinical and research interests focus on lung transplantation and cystic fibrosis. From 1998-2005, he was on faculty at the University of Florida where he was CF Center Director and Associate Medical Director of the Pediatric Lung Transplant Program. Dr. Faro's passion to improve the outcomes of pediatric lung transplant recipients helped lead to the formation of the International Pediatric Lung Transplant Collaborative (IPLTC), of which he was the first President. The IPLTC has since published several research studies, developed a set of clinical guidelines followed by the participating centers, and is actively involved in an NIH sponsored multicenter trial examing the viral triggers of autoimmunity. Dr. Faro moved to Washington University in St. Louis in 2005 and has been the Pediatric Director of Washington University's TDN as well as the Associate Medical Director of the Pediatric Lung Transplant Program. He also serves as the Physician Leader of the Pulmonary Unit at St. Louis Children's Hospital.
Dr. Faro is the author or co-author of more than 40 scientific articles and book chapters. He serves on the editorial board of Pediatric Transplantation and reviews manuscripts for several other scientific journals. Dr. Faro is a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics and has served on the Executive Committee of the Pulmonary Section as well as Chair of the Nominating Committee. He also belongs to several other professional organizations including the American Thoracic Society, the American Society of Transplantation, the International Pediatric Transplant Association, and the International Society of Heart and Lung Transplantation.
