Emily Bugay, MS, RD, LD

Biography

Emily Bugay received her Bachelor of Science in Dietetics from Michigan State University in 2015. She went on to complete the dietetic internship at UK HealthCare in 2016, and was awarded Outstanding Intern of the Year from the Bluegrass Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. Emily then accepted a position as an inpatient dietitian with UK HealthCare, working primarily with advanced heart failure and cardiovascular surgery patients. In 2019, she transitioned to her current role with UK HealthCare in heart and lung transplant. In both the inpatient and outpatient setting, she assists heart and lung transplant recipients in optimizing their nutritional status before and after surgery, as well as helping them manage long-term post-transplant changes such as diabetes. In August 2020, Emily graduated from Northern Kentucky University with a Master of Science in Health Sciences, with a concentration in Healthcare Management.

Shawn Crouch, MPH

Biography

Shawn Crouch, MPH currently serves as the Administrator for UK HealthCare’s Barnstable Brown Diabetes Center. Shawn’s career has included both healthcare operations and policy development. Prior to his work with the Barnstable Brown Center, Shawn served at UK HealthCare as operations chief of staff and the director of clinical integration. Before coming back to the University, he served as Kentucky’s Commissioner of Medicaid Services and the Deputy Secretary for the Cabinet for Health Services. Shawn’s a lifelong Kentuckian and a graduate of the University of Kentucky with degrees in health administration and public health.

Andrea Francis, MS, LD, RDN, LDE

Biography

Andrea Francis is a Pediatric Diabetes EducatorRegistered Dietitian at UK Barnstable Brown Diabetes Center Here she provides diabetes selfmanagement education to pediatric patients and their families works with the interdisciplinary team to interpret diabetes technology data and facilitate patient care and communicates with patients and their families about diabetesrelated questions As a Registered Dietitian Andrea also provides Medical Nutrition Therapy to the pediatric population with special consideration to diabetes and diabetesrelated disease states including prediabetes obesity and heart disease .

Laura Hieronymus, DNP, MSEd, RN, MLDE, BC-ADM, CDCES, FADCES

Biography

Laura Hieronymus is a doctor of nursing practice, master licensed diabetes educator, a board-certified advanced diabetes manager, and certified diabetes care and education specialist, with over 30 years’ diabetes experience. She is Associate Director for Education & Quality Services at the Barnstable Brown Diabetes Center and an Adjunct Associate Professor for the College of Nursing at the University of Kentucky in Lexington. Dr. Hieronymus is an active member of the American Diabetes Association (ADA) and the Association of Diabetes Care and Education Specialists (ADCES) and has served both organizations as local, regional, and national faculty. She’s served Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing as media expert and the Certification Board for Diabetes Care and Education as a content writer/reviewer. Dr. Hieronymus is currently on the Credentialing Oversight Committee for the BC-ADM, chair for ADCES’s Education Advisory Committee, and serves as faculty for ADCES’s Core Concepts Course Online. She serves in several Board of Director capacities, including the Dean’s Advisory Board for the UK College of Nursing. Dr. Hieronymus has presented professional/consumer programs/webinars as a national, regional, and local speaker. She has authored numerous articles and publications; she has also written or contributed to eight books. Dr. Hieronymus currently serves as Editor for Practical Diabetology, Associate Editor for ADA’s Diabetes Spectrum, and Editorial Board Member for the national diabetes consumer magazine, Diabetes Self-Management.

James Keck, MD

Biography

Dr. James Keck provides full spectrum primary care with an emphasis on health promotion. He enjoys caring for families and patients of all ages and has a particular interest in the health of children, adolescents, and older adults.

Keck grew up in Minnesota and attended medical school at the University of Minnesota where he completed an internship in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics. He trained in family medicine at the Tufts-affiliated Carney Hospital program in Boston. He is a graduate of the Johns Hopkins General Preventive Medicine residency program. He received advanced training in epidemiology as an Epidemic Intelligence Service Officer with the CDC in Alaska. He has substantial international experience, having worked for two years in Malawi with Partners In Health and as a WHO consultant in Ecuador.

Kayla Kreft, PharmD, AACC, BCPS

Dr. Kayla Kreft received her Doctor of Pharmacy from the University of Kentucky College of Pharmacy in 2016 She then completed her PGY1 at the Center for Health and Wellness at Sullivan University College of Pharmacy followed by a PGY2 in Ambulatory Care at University of Louisville Hospital Dr Kreft currently works as a board certified ambulatory care pharmacist at the UK Gill Heart and Vascular Institute She works within general cardiology clinics the Womens Heart Health program and the KATS PLEDGE postACS transitional care management program Her areas of interest include cardiovascular risk reduction hypertension hyperlipidemia anticoagulation and outcomesbased research.

Mary Lacy, PhD

Biography

Dr Lacy is an assistant professor of epidemiology in the UK College of Public Health Her research focuses on improving diabetes care and reducing disparities in diabetes outcomes She holds an MPH from the University of Georgia a PhD in epidemiology from Brown University and completed a postdoctoral fellowship at UCSF She joined as faculty at UK in September 2019

Kristina Naseman, Pharm.D., MPH, BCACP, CDE

Biography

Kristina Naseman received her Doctorate of Pharmacy from Southwestern Oklahoma State University College of Pharmacy. She then completed a Post-Graduate Year One Pharmacy Practice Residency at The Ohio State University College of Pharmacy. Kristina is a Board Certified Ambulatory Care Pharmacist and Certified Diabetes Educator. Additionally, Kristina obtained a Master in Public Health degree from The Ohio State University. Kristina currently practices with UK HealthCare with the inpatient diabetes service team, The Barnstable Brown Diabetes Center, and Maternal Fetal Medicine. Her interests include population health, diabetes prevention, and diabetes in pregnancy.

Martha Parks, LCSW

Biography

Martha Parks, LCSW works at UK Family and Community Medicine at Turfland Clinic. She provides psychotherapy and case management for the patients as part of the interprofessional team of providers. Ms. Parks is the site supervisor for the IBH (Integrated Behavioral Health) program at UKFM in conjunction with the College of Social Work. Each year 4 masters level students complete a 2 semester practicum at the Turfland Clinic. She has worked 13 years as a clinical social worker and became part of the UK Family in 2016.

Alba Morales Pozzo, MD

Biography

Dr. Alba E. Morales Pozzo received her medical degree at the Universidad Nacional Autonoma De Honduras, Tegucigalpa, Honduras and then completed a residency at the University of Miami, Miller School of Medicine, Fla. She then completed a fellowship in Pediatric Endocrinology at the University of Florida, College of Medicine, Gainesville, Florida.

Dr. Morales is currently working as faculty in the Barnstable Brown Diabetes Center, which is part of the UK Healthcare system.

Dr. Morales Pozzo is board certified by the American Board of Pediatrics in General Pediatrics and Endocrinology.

Aurelia Radulescu, MD

Biography

Dr. Aurelia Radulescu graduated from the University of Medicine and Pharmacy Carol Davila in Bucharest, Romania. She pursued a Residency Training in Pediatrics at Babies and Children’s of Brooklyn Hospital, Maimonides Medical Center in New York City. In 2006, Dr. Radulescu joined the University of Kentucky as a general pediatrician. For the past ten years, she has served as the Medical Director of the Pediatric BMI clinic, a regional referral clinic serving children and adolescents with obesity. The focus of Dr. Radulescu's medical career has been in the area of pediatric obesity, with a heavy emphasis on the medical complications associated with this disease. Dr. Radulescu is currently an Associate Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Kentucky, College of Medicine. She is certified by the American Board of Pediatrics and by the American Board of Obesity Medicine.

Kristen Stakelin, MD, MLDE, CDE

Biography

After attending the University of Louisville School of Medicine, Dr. Stakelin completed an Internal Medicine Residency at the University of Kentucky where she developed an interest in diabetes care. She graduated in 2000 and obtained Board Certification in Internal Medicine.

The next six years were spent in private practice/primary care in Georgetown Kentucky. Due to a lack of diabetes education resources in the area, Dr. Stakelin obtained certification as an insulin pump trainer as well as helped initiate a Diabetes Education Program, serving as the medical director from 2005-2007.

In 2007, Dr. Stakelin returned to UK as faculty in the Internal Medicine Department. In 2010, she was recruited to be a diabetologist in the Department of Endocrinology. Since then, she has obtained Certified Diabetes Educator and Master Licensed Diabetes Educator status. She is the Medical Director for the Barnstable Brown Diabetes and Obesity Center at the University of Kentucky and serves on the Kentucky Board of Licensed Diabetes Educators.

Daniel Stinnett, MS, RD, LD, MLDE, CDCES

Biography

Daniel Stinnett provides medical nutrition therapy with a focus upon preventive care He enjoys working with a varied population including those who are socially disadvantaged and at highest risk of disparities regarding access to health care Daniel grew up in Kentucky and attended the University of Kentucky where he completed his Bachelor of Science degree in dietetics He graduated from Eastern Kentucky University with a Master of Science degree in Community Nutrition He is a Master Licensed Diabetes Educator as well as a Certified Diabetes Education and Care Specialist He is currently practicing at the University of Kentucky at the Bluegrass Care Clinic providing diabetes education and care to those living with HIV.

Gretchen Wells, MD, PhD

Biography

Dr. Wells earned an MD and PhD from the University of Alabama School of Medicine in Birmingham, Alabama. She completed residency and a fellowship in Cardiology at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

Dr. Wells is certified by the National Board of Echocardiography and the American Board of Internal Medicine in Cardiovascular Medicine.

She currently serves as Director of the Women’s Heart Health program at the UK Gill Heart and Vascular Institute.

Research interests include the role of estrogen in heart failure and psychologic attributes (e.g. role of optimism) in heart failure.
