University of Kentucky GME orientation requirements include completing the appropriate amount of continuing medical education (CME) mandated by your professional licensing board that may impact your ability to obtain and maintain your professional licensure during your training.

Kentucky CME Requirements Related to Prescribing or Dispensing Controlled Substances

Health professionals who prescribe or dispense controlled substances in Kentucky are required by their respective medical boards to complete continuing medical education (CME) relating to the use of KASPER, pain management, addiction disorders, or a combination of two or more of those subjects.

Instructions: If you are a physician you must complete a total of 4.5 hours of CME credits by selecting your choice of a combination of modules from the below options. If you are a dentist and have not already completed 3 hours of Kentucky Board of Dentistry approved CME you must complete 3 hours of module credits by selecting your choice of a combination of modules from the below options. Pharmacists and other health professionals are not required to complete this training as part of GME orientation requirements.

Pediatric Abusive Head Trauma

House Bill 157 passed by the Kentucky General Assembly in 2014 requires pediatricians, radiologists, family practitioners, and emergency medicine and urgent care physicians to complete one hour of training on pediatric abusive head trauma. If your residency training is in pediatrics, diagnostic radiology, family medicine or emergency medicine you must complete this training module.
