Overview
Division of Hospital Medicine, University of Kentucky, will be hosting the 6th annual Heartland Hospital Medicine Conference (HHMC) and will feature presenters from around the nation. Hospitalists are the largest subspecialty of Internal Medicine and are the front-line providers for care delivery of hospitalized patients. Around 75% of hospitals in the United States, including almost all highly ranked academic health centers, now rely on hospitalists for clinical care delivery. The doubling time of medical literature continues to decrease, and it puts extra strain on the hospitalists to stay updated with current evidence and guidelines. We plan to deliver the current evidence and innovative practice patterns to the participants to deliver the best, highest value, and most efficient possible.
Kentucky alone has around 300 hospitalists; the surrounding states have thousands of hospitalists caring for millions of patients. The HHMC provides a single, centrally located event for hospitalist from around the region to gather, network, and learn from regional experts about all the latest developments in HM. The course directors for the HHM Conference are Drs. Romil Chadha and Joseph Sweigart; along with their other colleagues, they founded and lead the Kentucky Chapter of SHM. Dr. Chadha currently serves as Vice President of the Kentucky Chapter of SHM and is Division Chief for the University of Kentucky Division of Hospital Medicine. Dr. Sweigart is a hospitalist at the Georgetown Community Hospital, voluntary faculty at System University of Kentucky Division of Hospital Medicine, and is the Immediate Past-President of the Kentucky Chapter of SHM.
