There is approximately 4 million concussions every year in the United States. This lecture will describe the current state and latest advances in the treatment of concussions. More specifically, the presentation will discuss the acute and chronic somatic, cognitive and behavioral sequelae for the injury sustained. It will also discuss comorbidities associated with concussions such as depression, pain, substance abuse, dementia as well as the best treatment approaches. Finally, the lecture will discuss the latest research developments including clinical and neuroimaging correlates particularly for sequelae. This presentation will feature an internationally renowned expert and pioneer in the field of concussion and traumatic brain injury, Dr. David Cifu.
