Needs Statement

This presentation examines the intricate relationship between substance use disorder, mental health conditions, and intimate partner violence as contributing factors to maternal mortality and injury. Prevention strategies include the expansion of education and preparedness targeting the future health sciences, human services, law, and public health workforce and the formation of a maternal injury surveillance system database.

Target Audience

The Annual Kentucky Perinatal Quality Collaborative Meeting targets perinatal medical care providers, social service providers, administrators, payers, quality managers, researchers, policymakers, and patients with lived experience. 

Objectives

Upon competition of this activity, participants will be able to:
1. Define and identify symptoms of Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) with health impact during pregnancy or the 12 months postpartum.
2. Identify and practice strategies to prevent or reduce the health of IPV for pregnant or postpartum people.
