Needs Statement

Understanding the relationship between substance use disorders and HIV and hepatitis C will allow for better treatment outcomes for persons with Substance Use Disorders.  

Target Audience

Physicians, Nurses, Nurse Practitioners, Physician Assistants, Pharmacists, Social Workers

Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, participants will be able to:

  • Describe the early history of HIV and hepatitis C and their association with substance use disorder 
  • Express current epidemiologic trends in HIV, hepatitis C, and substance use disorder 
  • Explain broadly the transmission, pathogenesis, treatment, and prevention of HIV 
  • Explain broadly the transmission, pathogenesis, treatment, and prevention of hepatitis C
