Needs Statement

Nurses and other healthcare providers are in a unique position of being one of the few professionals who are likely to interact with human trafficking victims. Healthcare is also central to restoring the well-being of trafficking survivors. The purpose of this activity is to inform nurses and other healthcare workers about human abuse and services available for treatment and prevention.

Target Audience

Nurses and healthcare professionals.

Objectives

  1. Participants will be able to identify red flags of labor and sex trafficking.
  2. Participants will be able to understand state and federal laws pertaining to human trafficking and immigration protections for victims.
  3. Participants will better understand the trauma associated with human trafficking and the documentation of injuries and trauma relevant to a possible criminal or civil case.
  4. Participants will be able to identify the local service provider in their area that can assist victims of labor and sex trafficking.

The University of Kentucky, College of Nursing is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation (ANCC).

This educational activity is offered for a maximum of 2.00 ANCC contact hours.
