Needs Statement

Many organizations are on the journey to implement and enhance the roles of the PC RN. This journey is filled with both barriers and facilitators. There is a lack of understanding of other roles on the care team, which contributes to a lack of understanding of the PC RN role.

Successful implementation of the PC RN role requires good collaboration between clinical practice partners who are on this journey and academic institutions who are slowly changing their training to meet the needs of front line primary care institutions hiring new graduate nurses into this role—but how are partnerships forged?

Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, participants will be able to: 

  1. Identify the characteristics of the expanded role of the registered nurse (RN) in primary care.
  2. State strategies for expanding the RN role in primary care.
