Needs Statement

Acknowledging that BPSD are a major issue for patients and care providers, and that appropriate pharmacologic treatments may not always be available or may pose unnecessary risks to patients, the American Academy of Neurology recommends that non-pharmacologic management be utilized as a primary means to treat such symptoms of disease.

 

Target Audience

This is for ALL Certified Nursing Facilities personnel in Kentucky.

Objectives

Upon completion of this educational activity, participants will be able to:

  • Describe the assessment of behavioral and environmental triggers for BPSD
  • Develop skills in the management of BPSD using nonpharmacologic approaches
  • Describe professional and community-based resources that can help provide non-pharmacologic management of BPSD in patients with dementia that can be incorporated as part of a routine care plan
