Dr. Swan has been involved in research at SRI International for the past 25 years, serving as the Director of the Center for Health Sciences since 1987. His research areas of interest include treatment of nicotine dependence, genetic and environmental determinants of addiction and disease, brain aging, and pharmacogenetics. He has been Principal Investigator or Co-Investigator on over twenty NIH-funded grants and has published extensively.
Dr. Swan has been the Editor-in-Chief of the journal Nicotine & Tobacco Research since 1997, and has guided its growth from 40 submissions per year to over 200 in 2004. The journal has been listed on Index Medicus after its first year of operation, an important milestone for a fledgling journal.
