Biosketch
Dr. Omar, is a Professor in Pediatrics and Obstetrics Gynecology and Director of Adolescent Medicine and Young Parent Program at the University of Kentucky in Lexington, Kentucky. He has completed residencies in Obstetrics Gynecology and Pediatrics as well as fellowships in Physiology and Adolescent Medicine. He is a member of the Bord of Directors of the North American Society for Pediatric & Adolescent Gynecology and has served as President of the Ohio Valley Society of Adolescent Medicine.
Dr. Omar is co-founder and current executive committee member of the international society for holistic health. He is the Associate Editor of The Scientific Journal: Child Health & Human Development and on the editorial board of the Journal of Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecology, International Journal Of Adolescent Medicine and Health, International Journal of disability & Human Development, Journal of Holistic Health.
Dr. Omar is also the recipient of the Commonwealth of Kentucky Governor’s Award for Community Service and Volunteerism in 2000, and the Kentucky Teen Pregnancy Coalition Recognition Award 2001, The Sexual Abuse Awareness Month Award by the Kentucky Association of Sexual Abuse Professionals, The Don Cantley Community Service Award by the KY Pediatric Society 2007 and the Founders of Adolescent Medicine Award by the American Academy of Pediatrics 2007, as well as departmental awards in teaching, research and the Miracle Maker Award. He has published over 100 papers, book chapters, editorials and has edited several books and journals and has hundreds of presentations world-wide. Dr. Omar is the founder and chairman of the Stop Youth Suicide Campaign since October 2000 which is a grass root program that has helped over 1600 suicidal adolescents. He has worked on teen suicide prevention, sexual abuse prevention, evaluation & treatment, teen pregnancy prevention and reproductive care for disabled teens mostly on his own time. He is known at the national and international level.
