Biosketch
John Edward McGowan, Jr., MD is Professor of Epidemiology at Rollins School of Public Health of Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia where he is Director of the MD/MPH Dual Degree Program. He received his medical degree from Harvard Medical School, Boston, Massachusetts and is a fellow of the American Academy of Microbiology and the Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America. His education and training included Epidemic Intelligence Service (EIS) Officer, Centers for Disease Control, Atlanta, Georgia, and Research Fellow in Infectious Diseases and Medical Microbiology, Thorndike Memorial and Channing Laboratories, Harvard Medical Unit, Boston City Hospital, Boston, Massachusetts. He serves on the Editorial Advisory Boards for Infection Control and Hospital Epidemiology and Surgical Infections and this year he received the Thomas F. Sellers Jr. Award (Faculty Role Model and Mentor), from the Rollins SPH, Emory University.
