Biosketch
Todd began his nursing career in 2000. His first RN position was in the Coronary and Coronary Medical ICUs. Todd became an NP in 2003 and joined the division of Trauma Surgery and became the supervisor of the Trauma Nurse Practitioner team in 2006. Todd has managed and supervised the NP clinical operations of the Trauma and Acute Care Surgery Service to develop and maintain strong clinical performance and outcomes that support the practice of high quality, evidenced-based, consistent and effective trauma medicine and advanced nursing care. Aside from leading his own team, Todd collaborated with an interdisciplinary team including surgeons, house staff and nurses to work towards achieving the best outcomes for our patients. Todd is currently the Assistant Director of Trauma Services at HCAVa Chippenham Hospital where he is working with physicians, nurses, directors and executives to build a Level II Trauma Program in central Virginia.
Todd graduated from James Madison University with a Bachelor of Arts in English in 1994 where he earned Dean’s List honors. He earned both his Bachelors of Science in Nursing as well as Masters of Science in Adult Health from Virginia Commonwealth University. He is currently enrolled and completing his Doctor of Philosophy degree at the University of Virginia with a targeted completion date of May 2016. Todd is committed to contributing to the nursing community and continuing to improve his own skills and abilities as well.
He is a past Chair of the Council of Advanced Practice Providers at VCU Health System. This council and position serves to identify and work through advanced practice provider opportunities within the VCU Health System. Todd also serves as Adjunct Faculty at both VCU and UVA Schools of Nursing, teaching and precepting advanced practice nursing students.
Todd was awarded the Order of the Shining Knight for his contribution to protecting and saving lives in Central Virginia. He most recently published Development and Testing of an Instrument to Measure Moral Distress in Healthcare Professionals in American Journal of Bioethics Primary Research. Todd’s research interests include critical care, end-of-life experience, nursing ethics and moral distress.
He is a member of the Society of Critical Care Medicine and Virginia Council of Nurse Practitioners. Todd is a current board member of the Society of Critical Care Medicine, Carolinas/Virginias chapter.
Todd is married with three children and two dogs and his interests include family, sports, bikes, runs, books, movies and music.
