Biosketch
After obtaining an MD from Jefferson Medical College, Dr. Mannino to completed internship and residency at Lankenau Hospital in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. A fellowship in pulmonary medicine at West Virginia University School of Medicine/National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health in Morgantown, West Virginia, followed.
Dr. Mannino served as the chief science officer for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Air Pollution and Respiratory Health branch following his fellowship until his retirement in 2004.
Dr. Mannino has authored over 250 articles for peer-reviewed journals in addition to book chapters, editorials, and book reviews.
Research interests included the epidemiology of asthma and COPD, tobacco use and treatment, and the effects of air pollutant exposure on respiratory function and lung diseases.
