Biosketch
Donna R. Burgess is the Clinical Pharmacy Program Coordinator of Infectious Diseases at UK HealthCare and a volunteer faculty at the University of Kentucky, College of Pharmacy. She is a graduate of the Medical University of South Carolina College of Pharmacy in Charleston, SC. She has practiced extensively in hospital pharmacy for over 25 years. Upon graduation, she was a hospital pharmacist for 5 years at Roper Hospital in Charleston, SC prior to relocating to San Antonio, TX. While in Texas, she held various hospital pharmacy positions playing a vital role in increasing decentralized pharmacy services and expanding clinical pharmacy programs within the Baptist Healthcare System and Methodist Healthcare System. Furthermore, she held leadership positions serving as the Clinical Pharmacy Manager for 5 years and Interim Director of Pharmacy on 2 occasions at St. Luke’s Baptist Hospital. In 2002, she became the first Antibiotic Surveillance Pharmacist at Methodist Hospital for the Methodist Healthcare System that consist of 5 acute care hospitals. In addition, she was Adjunct Assistant Professor at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, School of Medicine; Adjunct Assistant Professor at the University of Texas at Austin, College of Pharmacy; and Adjunct Assistant Professor at the University of Incarnate Word, Feik School of Pharmacy in San Antonio, TX. In 2012, she relocated to Lexington, KY and became the Clinical Pharmacist Specialists in Infectious Diseases at UK HealthCare in January 2013. Her primary areas of interest include antibiotic stewardship and precepting both pharmacy students and residents. She was recently named the UK HealthCare 2015 Preceptor of the Year by the pharmacy residents.
