Michael Burleson, RPh

Biography

On October 1, 2004, Michael A. Burleson assumed the position of Executive Director of the Kentucky Board of Pharmacy. Mr. Burleson is a 1974 graduate of the University of Kentucky College of Pharmacy. Prior to assuming his position with the Board, Mr. Burleson was a pharmacy manager with Walgreen's. He was also a pharmacy owner for 19 years in Henderson, KY. He has previously been employed with Muhlenberg Community Hospital, Methodist Hospital, and Rite-Aid Pharmacy. Michael served on the Henderson County Board of Education from July 1988 through November 2002. He was a founder and served on HOPE, Inc., Hendersonians Offering a Promising Environment (formerly CHOICE - Caring Hendersonians Offering Informed Community Enlightenment, and Henderson County War on Drugs) from 1983 through October 2002. Programs initiated by this group included "Just Say No" programs, Parent to Parent, Project Graduation, Teen Court and a coffee house. Michael was and continues to be involved in the University of Kentucky Alumni Association starting as a local board member and president of the UK-Henderson County Alumni Association, National Board of Directors and President of the National Alumni Association 1994 - 95. He is a past president of the University of Kentucky College of Pharmacy Alumni Association and has served on various committees including the Dean's advisory, outreach, interviews and admissions committees. He has also been involved with KPhA, as a committee member and served two terms on the Board of Directors. He served as secretary-treasurer for the Tri County Pharmacists Association (Henderson, Union and Webster County) for many years. He and his wife, Cheryl, reside in Lexington, Kentucky.

Holly Divine, PharmD, CGP, CDE

Biography

Dr. Divine coordinates the Introductory Pharmacy Practice Experiences and is the Residency Program Director for the UK College of Pharmacy PGY1 Community-Based Pharmacy Residency Program. In addition to her role in experiential education, she teaches and coordinates endocrine course in the curriculum. She is a 2015 recipient of the UK Provost’s Outstanding Teaching Award and a 2010 recipient of the American Pharmacists Association (APhA) Community Pharmacy Residency Excellence in Precepting Award. Dr. Divine has practiced in ambulatory care for over 15 years and currently provides medication therapy management focusing on diabetes care at Bluegrass Community Health Center, a Federally-Qualified Health Center and accredited Patient-Centered Medical Home, in Lexington, Kentucky. Previously, she was the co-founder of the PharmacistCARE program, a recipient of the 2008 American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) Best Practices Award and 2005 APhA Foundation Pinnacle Award. Dr. Divine serves as the Chair of the Board of Pharmaceutical Specialties Ambulatory Care Specialty Council. In addition to being a Board Certified Ambulatory Care Pharmacist, she is also a Board Certified Geriatric Pharmacist and a Certified Diabetes Educator.

Harrison Bachmeier, PharmD

Biography

Dr. Bachmeier earned his PharmD from the University of Florida in Gainesville. He completed a pharmacy practice residency at Lee Memorial Health System in Fort Myers, Florida. Dr. Bachmeier completed the University of Florida College of Pharmacy Teaching Certificate program and continues to be engaged in teaching activities through the University of Kentucky College of Pharmacy. These activities include precepting fourth year pharmacy students, facilitating small group discussions, and providing lectures in the infectious diseases therapeutics module. His current research activities focus on evaluating antimicrobial pharmacokinetic properties in patients undergoing hemodialysis. In addition to his clinical responsibilities, Dr. Bachmeier serves as a member of the Grand Rounds Committee and the Residency Social Committee. Upon completion of his PGY2 residency, Dr. Bachmeier would like to obtain a position as an infectious diseases pharmacy specialist within in a large medical center where he can combine patient care with teaching and clinical research. Practice interests include infectious diseases pharmacotherapy, antimicrobial resistance, and HIV management.

Alice Thornton, MD

Biography

Dr. Thornton earned an MD at Marshall University in Huntington, West Virginia. She completed residency at Wake Forest University School of Medicine in Internal Medicine. She then completed fellowship training with the Division of Infectious Disease at Indiana University Purdue University (IUPUI). While at UK, she has been part of the COPS program. Dr. Thornton has successfully acquired four HRSA funded grants – Ryan White Part B, C and, D and the Local Performance Site grant of the Southeast AIDS Training and Education Center. She serves as Medical Director of the Blue Grass Care Clinic. She is PI of the NIH funded Reprieve Study – Randomized Clinical Trial to Prevent Vascular Events in HIV. She currently serves on the executive committee of the Ryan White Part C Medical Providers Coalition and was one of the founding steering committee members.

George Davis, PharmD, BCPS

Biography

George Davis is Anticoagulation Program Coordinator with UK HealthCare Pharmacy Services and Associate Adjunct Professor with University of Kentucky College of Pharmacy. He completed residency and research fellowship training at the University of Kentucky and has been a clinical pharmacist at UK for over 18 years with practice, teaching, research, and scholarly activity in clinical pharmacokinetics, anticoagulation, and internal medicine. In his current position, he is pharmacist coordinator of the UK HealthCare Anticoagulation Stewardship Program which includes involvement in a multidisciplinary inpatient anticoagulation consult service, anticoagulation transition of care clinic, quality assurance/safety, and formulary management. Most recently, he has served in a leadership role in development of multidisciplinary Pulmonary Embolism Response Team (PERT) at UK HealthCare.

Frank Romanelli, PharmD, MPH, FAPhA, BCPS, AAHIVP

Biography

Dr. Romanelli, originally from Waterbury, Connecticut, earned both a Bachelor of Science and a Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy in Boston. He completed Pharmacy Practice and Critical Care residencies at the University of Kentucky Medical Center, serving as Chief Resident. Subsequently, he earned a Masters in Public Health from the University of Kentucky. Dr. Romanelli has received several commendations by various groups for outstanding teaching. In 2003, he was selected by the University of Kentucky Alumni Association as a ‘Great Teacher’, this is the oldest continuous award presented by UK. In 2004, he received the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy Innovations in Teaching Award and in 2008 the UK Provosts Award for Outstanding teaching by a Tenured Faculty member. Dr. Romanelli has also been recognized as an Outstanding Professor of the Year by both the UK College of Pharmacy and College of Health Sciences. From student nominations, Dr. Romanelli has been recognized by the UK College of Education as a “Teacher Who Made a Difference.” In 2012, he was inducted as an honorary member of Pi Alpha, the National Physician Assistant Academic Honor Society and in 2013 he was inducted into Delta Omega, the honorary society for Public Health. Dr. Romanelli is board certified in pharmacotherapy and recognized by the American Association of HIV Medicine as an HIV Pharmacist. In 2009, he was elected a Fellow of the American Pharmacists Association. Dr. Romanelli currently serves as Associate Editor of the American Journal of Pharmaceutical Education. Additionally, he is the section editor for HIV/AIDS and Sexually Transmitted Infections for the Annals of Pharmacotherapy. He maintains an active practice in the area of HIV/AIDS and his research interests include pharmacy education and pedagogy.

Stacey Emmons, PharmD

Biography

Stacey Emmons is originally from Morehead, KY and attended Morehead State University where she received her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology in 2002. Stacey then attended Samford University's McWhorter School of Pharmacy in Birmingham, Alabama and graduated with her PharmD in 2006. Ms. Emmons has worked for Rite Aid since her graduation and has been a pharmacy manager since 2006. Stacey recently was promoted to Clinical Services Manager for Rite Aid in Region 3. Stacey enjoys being a preceptor to pharmacy students from Northern Ohio University, the University of Kentucky and McWhorter School of Pharmacy and likes to focus on the clinical aspects of community pharmacy, including immunizations and Medication Therapy Management. She is a certified American Heart Associated CPR instructor.

Robert Kuhn, PharmD

Biography

Dr. Kuhn is a specialist in pediatric pharmacy with the University of Kentucky College of Pharmacy and works with his colleagues in the Kentucky Children’s Hospital. He earned a BA in philosophy from the University of Steubenville (Ohio) and BS in pharmacy from The Ohio State University. He earned a PharmD from the University of Texas at Austin. Dr. Kuhn’s research interest focus is pediatric drug safety and cystic fibrosis drug therapy. Dr. Kuhn has made over 300 presentations on pediatric drug therapy and has published over 70 papers on this topic. He is a reviewer for nine journals and is active in many professional organizations. He is the recent recipient of the Helms Award, given by PPAG, in recognition of outstanding practice in pediatric pharmacy, training of residents and students, and scholarly activity.

Christina Carracedo, PharmD

Biography

Dr. Carracedo earned her PharmD at the University of Florida College of Pharmacy in 2011. She completed a pharmacy practice residency at Baptist Medical Center/Wolfson Children’s Hospital in Jacksonville, Florida followed by an oncology specialty residency at UFHealth in Gainesvile, Florida. Dr. Carracedo practices in hematologic malignancies and hematopoietic stem cell transplant. Her research interests include infectious complications following HSCT, graft-versus-host disease and immunotherapy.

Biography

Dr. Schaninger earned an MD from Ryukyu Daigaku Igakubu in Japan. She completed residency and fellowship at the University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center in Lexington, Kentucky. Sara Brouse, PharmD, BCPS (AQ Cardiology), FCCP

Biography

Sara Brouse, Pharm.D. joined UK Healthcare as a Cardiovascular Pharmacy Clinical Specialist in 2011. Formerly, she served as an Associate Professor of Pharmacy Practice and Vice Chair for Residency Programs at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of Pharmacy and an Advanced Practice Pharmacist in Cardiology at the VA North Texas Healthcare System. She also served as the Program Director for the PGY2 Critical Care Residency at the Dallas VA Medical Center. Sara actively participates in several professional organizations, including the American College of Clinical Pharmacy (ACCP), Society of Critical Care Medicine (SCCM), and the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP). She has been invited to speak locally, regionally, nationally, and internationally on topics related to acute coronary syndromes, acute heart failure, and sedation/analgesia in the critically ill. Her research interests include cardiac drug-induced adverse effects and studying drug therapy in acute decompensated heart failure and refractory angina.

Melody Ryan, PharmD, MPH, CGP, BCPS

Biography

Melody Ryan, Pharm.D., MPH, CGP, BCPS received her Pharm.D. and Master’s of Public Health degrees from the University of Kentucky. She completed a pharmacy practice residency at Duke University and a neurosciences fellowship at the University of Kentucky. She holds appointments as Professor in the College of Pharmacy, Department of Pharmacy Practice and Science and at the College of Medicine, Department of Neurology at the University of Kentucky. Her practice site is the neurology clinic at the Veteran’s Affairs Medical Center in Lexington, Kentucky. She is the Director of International Professional Student Education at the College of Pharmacy. Dr. Ryan earned her certification in geriatric pharmacy in November 1998 and she attained Board Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist status in 2000. She was made a fellow of the American College of Clinical Pharmacy and the American Pharmacists Association. She also serves on the Medicare Model Guidelines Expert Panel for the United States Pharmacopeia. She is president of the American Pharmacists Association – Academy of Pharmaceutical Research and Science.
