Margie Banse, BA, AAS, is the Quality Data Reporting Manager for Qsource. She has more than 26 years of experience in information technology with experience ranging from programmer, support/implementation specialist, business analyst, and project management all in various industries. Prior to entering the healthcare technology field Margie lead projects for custom development of web and client/server applications for private and public sector entities. She has more than ten years’ experience in implementing large applications and providing training for those applications. She received her AAS degree from Elizabethtown Community College in data processing technology and her BA from Western Kentucky University majoring in Economics with a minor in Computer Science.

Kelly Fountain, BA

Kelly Fountain serves as the lead quality improvement advisor in assisting practices to prepare for the new quality payment program. Additionally Kelly is a health information technology advisor for Kentucky REC, working with practices across Kentucky on demonstrating meaningful use. Kelly received her bachelors of arts from the University of Kentucky and is pursuing her master’s in public administration at Eastern Kentucky University. Kelly focuses on helping Kentucky healthcare providers navigate the many challenging federal quality programs through the adoption, implementation and optimisation of electronic health records (EHRs) to improve the quality and efficiency of patient care while reducing costs.

Michelle Hibbard

Michelle is a Health IT Advisor with the Kentucky Regional Extension Center, providing assistance to medical practices with Meaningful Use support and quality improvement. She holds a Bachelor’s in Business Administration with a Minor in Management from Union College and an Associates in Office Systems and Technologies from Eastern Kentucky University. Michelle assists practices across the state with meeting objectives required for the EHR incentive program and also assists in the submissions of KY Medicaid and Medicare attestations. She also works with practices to help improve A1C and Hypertension quality measures by providing workflow assessments. Michelle has completed training on Facilitating Patient-Centered Medical Home Recognition. Prior to working at the Kentucky REC, Michelle worked as an Office Manager for an Internal Medicine/Family Practice group where she performed work flow assessments and practice workflow redesigns that were developed to incorporate use of the Practice Management and EHR system. She has extensive experience in check-in, check-out, scheduling, medical records, billing including claim submission, posting of remits, and collection of accounts receivable, creating policies and procedures including provider and employee training, human resources and accounts payable.

Robin Huffman, MHA, SSGB

Robin Huffman joined the Kentucky REC team as the Transformation Manager in November 2016. In this role, Robin oversees the Practice Transformation Network team and the Patient-Centered Medical Home/Specialty Practice team. Robin brings over 20 years of healthcare experience to our team, including work in health information management, process improvement, staff development and patient & family experience. Robin earned her Master’s degree in Healthcare Administration from the University of Kentucky and is currently pursuing additional education in Human Resources and Organizational Development with an emphasis in Leadership Development. Robin is certified in LEAN process improvement methodology and is a Six Sigma Green Belt.

Trudi Matthews, MA

Trudi manages all staff, programs, and operations of the Kentucky REC, a center charged with assisting health care providers, practices, and hospitals across Kentucky with using technology, connectivity, process improvement, and value-based care models to improve the quality and value of health care.

Trudi also serves as a policy advisor on the External Affairs team for UK HealthCare. In this role, she helps leadership remain informed about changing state and federal legislation, regulation, and policy related to quality, value, meaningful use of IT, and payment innovation.

Formerly, she served as Director of Policy and Business Development with the Health Collaborative, HealthBridge, and the Greater Cincinnati Health Council where she worked with one of the nation’s top regional health improvement and transformation teams.

She provided leadership and support for a wide range of technology and quality improvement initiatives including Cincinnati’s Beacon Community Program, the Tri-State Regional Extension Center, Aligning Forces for Quality, the Kentucky and Indiana State Health Information Exchange Programs, and the Nationwide Health Information Network, among other initiatives.

Trudi led grant and business development efforts which garnered more than $26 million in funding for regional health improvement programs.

She has served as Senior Policy Advisor with the Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Services as the coordinator for Kentucky’s statewide e-Health efforts. Trudi worked for the Council for State Governments where she managed CSG’s health policy activities for state legislators and executive branch officials.

Trudi earned a BA and MA in political science from Iowa State University.

Brent McKune, CHPS

Brent is a Senior Project Manager with the Kentucky REC. A graduate of the University of Kentucky, with a bachelor’s degree in Decision Science Information Systems, Brent offers more than 16 years of experience in healthcare IT, starting with his role coordinating a centralized health information system for a large, and integrated hospital network. Brent recently returned to the REC from a role as a System Consultant Senior Analyst/Systems Operations Manager at Xerox Services in Frankfort, KY. Brent’s primary focus at the Kentucky REC is assisting critical access hospitals (CAHs) and rural hospitals (RHs) in achieving meaningful use by providing them with advanced technical and meaningful use support. Brent has worked with numerous EHR’s in hospital and provider settings in which he provided guidance and best practices for system implementation—while achieving meaningful use. Brent has also served as the REC’s primary lead for a CDC grant aiding in the exchange of systemic therapy data for the Kentucky Cancer Registry (KCR) and the overall development of the Privacy and Security service line. Brent currently carries the AHIMA Certified HIPAA Privacy and Security (CHPS) and HIMSS Certified Professional in Healthcare Information & Management Systems (CPHIMS) certifications.
