ACPEThe University of Kentucky College of Pharmacy is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education as a provider of continuing pharmacy education.

This knowledge-based activity has been assigned UAN 0022-0000-18-001-L04-P and will award 1.00 contact hour (0.100 CEUs) of continuing pharmacy education credit in states that recognize ACPE providers.

Statements of participation will indicate hours and CEUs based on participation and will be issued online at the conclusion of the activity. Successful completion includes signing in at registration, attending the entire session for which credit is claimed, completing the activity evaluation and requesting credit online at conclusion of the activity. Credit will be uploaded to CPE Monitor, and participants may print a statement of credit or transcript from their NABP e-profile. The College complies with the Accreditation Standards for Continuing Pharmacy Education.

Needs Statement

Pharmacists are highly-trained health care providers and are highly accessible to the public and can positively impacted public health by providing immunization and other services. The lack of awareness of pharmacist's potential impact to improve public health and implement programs in individual practice settings at the state, national and global levels, through expanded practice and through partnerships with researchers is under utilized.

Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, participants will be able to:

  1. Discuss the contemporary roles of pharmacists and pharmacy researchers as partners in public health
  2. Using naloxone as a case study, describe the impact of pharmacist practice on public health in Kentucky
  3. Using malaria as a case study, describe the impact of pharmacy research on global public health
  4. Using case studies as examples, identify opportunities and programs to incorporate in practice settings that will improve public health
