This lecture will describe the current state and latest advances in technologies in rehabilitation and recovery. More specifically, this lecture will explore three very different technologies meant to assist individuals with disability. One technology, the wheelchair, can be argued to be the most important technology clinicians can offer to an individual with mobility impairment. However, wheelchairs need significant improvement. Brain computer interfaces and regenerative technologies hold great promise for the future, but current use is less clear. The balance between hype and hope offered by these technologies will be discussed in the broad context of rehabilitation research. This lecture featuring an internationally renowned expert and pioneer in rehabilitation, Dr. Michael Boninger, will provide education to healthcare professionals and scientists to improve their awareness of the potential of translation of rehabilitation technology. Dr. Boninger has been inducted into the National Academy of Science and was a speaker at the 2016 White House Frontier Conference.
