Needs Statement

Trauma is the leading cause of death in children over the age of one.  Most injured children do not receive initial treatment at a pediatric trauma center.  Therefore, it is important for anyone who works in the emergency department to receive trauma education.

Target Audience

Healthcare professionals who interact with injured children, including pediatricians, advanced practice nurses, physician assistants, trauma surgeons

Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, participates will be able to:

1. Summarize injuries that are commonly missed in pediatric trauma
2. Demonstrate the tertiary survey in pediatric trauma
3. Demonstrate a unique, standardized approach to the pediatric trauma evaluation
